Combilift, a global material-handling manufacturer, has introduced the Future Engineers Award to motivate young individuals to pursue careers in engineering and manufacturing. This initiative was announced during a Manufacturing Day event attended by over 100 fifth-year students and their teachers from County Monaghan. The award will recognize students achieving the highest grade in Engineering or Technology in their Leaving Certificate examinations in 2027, with each winner receiving a €500 award and a trophy.
The initiative is significant as it aims to raise awareness about the manufacturing sector and the diverse career opportunities it presents. Combilift's CEO, Martin McVicar, emphasized the need to inspire young people to view engineering as an exciting career, highlighting the various fields within engineering beyond traditional mechanical roles. The skills developed through Engineering and Technology are crucial for the future of manufacturing, both in Ireland and globally.
Combilift plans to hold an award ceremony at its Global Headquarters in August 2027, following the release of the Leaving Certificate results. While the award is limited to County Monaghan students, Combilift hopes to inspire other manufacturing companies to implement similar initiatives in their communities, further promoting the importance of engineering careers.
