The McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute (MMRI) is an applied manufacturing research center within the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University, located at 230 Longwood Road South in Hamilton, Ontario. The institute has operated for more than two decades of teaching, research, and industrial engagement.
MMRI occupies a 21,000-square-foot facility containing seven dedicated research laboratories, with capabilities in advanced machining, specialized tooling development, materials analysis, prototype development, and manufacturing process scaling. The institute works directly with small and medium-sized manufacturers as well as larger corporations on production challenges, and it belongs to the Ontario Advanced Manufacturing Consortium (OAMC), a partnership with the University of Waterloo and Western University aimed at expanding manufacturing technology adoption across Ontario.
Beyond contract research, MMRI provides graduate-level education and an industrial training program for manufacturing engineering, contributing to workforce development in Ontario's manufacturing sector.
