Cognex has announced its agreement to acquire RealSense for about $500 million, aiming to integrate 3D depth-sensing and robotic perception technology into its industrial machine-vision portfolio. The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, with RealSense projected to generate between $80 million and $90 million in revenue for the year.
This acquisition is significant as it allows Cognex to expand its capabilities in robotic perception, a rapidly growing market projected to reach approximately $1.6 billion by 2030. Cognex's president and CEO, Matt Moschner, emphasized the strategic importance of RealSense's technology and its potential to enhance Cognex's offerings in visual intelligence across various applications.
Looking ahead, Cognex plans to implement a three-year employee retention program valued at $56.5 million and will also spin out RealSense's Facial Authentication business before the deal closes. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
