Anduril Industries Unveils Weapon Configurations for FQ-44A Fury Drone for US Air Force

Anduril Industries has released new images of its FQ-44A Fury uncrewed combat aircraft during weapons fit checks, showcasing its capability to carry guided bombs, rocket pods, and other external munitions. This development is part of the U.S. Air Force’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program, aimed at integrating uncrewed aircraft with crewed fighters.

The FQ-44A Fury, previously known as YFQ-44A, was selected by the Air Force in April 2024 as one of the first aircraft for the CCA initiative. The program seeks to enhance mission flexibility by allowing uncrewed aircraft to operate alongside existing fighter jets, such as the F-22 and F-35, without the need for additional pilots.

Looking ahead, the Air Force plans to acquire at least 500 CCA aircraft, with an initial order of 100 to 150. The specific number of FQ-44s versus YFQ-42As has not been disclosed. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.

Editor's Note

The integration of uncrewed combat aircraft into existing military frameworks represents a significant shift in defense strategy. As the U.S. Air Force continues to explore the capabilities of the FQ-44A Fury, the implications for operational efficiency and mission effectiveness will be closely monitored by industry stakeholders and defense analysts alike.
