Company Overview

Muddy Machines was a London-based agricultural robotics company founded in 2020 by Christopher Chavasse and Florian Richter. It developed the Sprout robot, an AI-powered autonomous harvesting platform capable of operating up to 16 hours a day in specialty field crops. The Sprout used computer vision and automated gripper arms to identify, cut, and collect asparagus meeting grower specifications, while also predicting yields.

The company raised £7.8 million in Series A funding in October 2024 and received grants from Innovate UK and DEFRA, with plans to expand to tenderstem broccoli. After failing to secure follow-on funding, the company announced a wind-down in May 2025 and entered liquidation.
