Chennai drone maker spun out of Anna University's CASR, with DGCA type-certified agri sprayers (DH-AGRIGATOR-E10, DH-AG-H1); majority-held by Coromandel.
Dhaksha Unmanned Systems is an Indian drone manufacturer whose factory and R&D centre are in the SIDCO Industrial Estate at Ambattur, Chennai. Its roots are in a UAV project started in 2001 at the Centre for Aerospace Research (CASR) of Anna University's Madras Institute of Technology, and the company credits the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam with giving it its name. It became an independent private limited company in April 2019, founded by alumni of the Madras Institute of Technology. It has a 10-year technology partnership with Anna University that runs to 2028 and is the university's exclusive strategic partner. In July 2023, Coromandel International Ltd. of the Murugappa Group acquired a major stake in the company.
Dhaksha's agricultural range includes the DH-AGRIGATOR-E10, a battery-powered spraying drone with a 10-litre liquid payload. It covers up to 2 acres per charge, flies up to 50 m AGL, has an autonomous flight mode and returns to launch on low battery, lost communication or an empty tank. The DH-AG-H1 is a medium-category agricultural drone powered by an internal-combustion engine, with a 12-litre tank and 35 minutes of endurance. The E10 Plus extends the electric line. Beyond agriculture, the DH-Q4 is a day-and-night surveillance and mapping multirotor with swappable payloads, and WING is a VTOL aircraft for large-area mapping and surveillance.
The company received a DGCA type certificate for its IC-engine agricultural spraying drone in 2022, and by 2023 it held type certification for four drone types. It won the Drone Architecture award at the Indian Air Force's Mehar Baba Swarm Drone Competition in 2021. In 2023 it won bulk orders for agricultural drones from farm-input companies and for logistics drones for defence use, and it has delivered Kisan Drones to IFFCO. Pilot training is offered with CASR-RPTO, a DGCA-approved remote pilot training organisation.
