Company Overview

China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd. (CSCEC Third Bureau) is one of the main building and infrastructure contractors of China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (SSE: 601668). The bureau was set up in July 1965 in Panzhihua, Sichuan, for China's Third Front construction programme, moved to Guizhou in 1966 and relocated in stages to Hubei from 1973; it is now based in Wuhan. In 2007 the bureau was restructured as a company wholly owned by China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited, and the group company that now carries the business was registered in 2003 and renamed in 2013. According to its 2026 recruitment materials it holds 15 special-grade general-contracting qualifications, runs 27 main second-tier operating units and more than 2,500 projects under construction across all 31 mainland provinces and over 20 countries, and reported 2025 revenue above RMB 410 billion with new contracts above RMB 1 trillion. It ranks first among Hubei's top 100 enterprises and was the first Chinese building contractor to hold special-grade general-contracting qualifications across all building categories. The bureau's construction-automation work centres on large self-climbing construction platforms that it develops in-house. Its super-high-rise 'sky building machine' encloses and climbs with the core tube of skyscrapers, and a residential 'building machine' adapts the same concept to high-rise housing. On a residential tower in Urumqi, Xinjiang, the residential machine is a platform of more than 200 tonnes built from six subsystems, including an intelligent hydraulic lifting system, a steel working platform and digital controls. It carries 22 sensors for condition monitoring, AI cameras that flag hazards such as missing helmets or fire, and an ultrasonic system that checks lifting conditions before one-touch climbing; it lifts one storey in about 40 minutes, supports a floor cycle of as little as four days and is credited with cutting the overall schedule by about 30 percent, with a heating module added for low-temperature operation. The bureau also builds a tower-building machine for tall towers and bridge pylons, reported in use on 27 large projects including the Libu Yangtze River Bridge. Other on-site automation reported in Shenzhen includes robotic floor-tile laying on a prefabricated residential project and an inspection drone with a 4K camera that scans 50-metre tower cranes for defects such as hydraulic-valve seepage at the Futian Water Plant phase II project. The bureau organises the International Intelligent Construction Industry Expo, chairs several intelligent-construction industry alliances and invested in what it describes as China's first intelligent construction industrial park.
