Singapore's HTX Launches Humanoid Robotics Centre Aiming for 2028 Public Safety Deployment

Singapore’s Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) has inaugurated the Home Team Humanoid Robotics Centre (H2RC) on September 30, with the objective of deploying a humanoid robot in a public safety role by 2028. The centre will focus on developing capabilities for various public-safety missions, including hazardous-material containment and contraband searches. The establishment of H2RC is significant as it aims to enhance operational efficiency in public safety through the integration of humanoid robots. The centre is equipped with advanced facilities for motion capture, teleoperation, and AI systems, which are essential for training robots to perform complex tasks in real-world scenarios. HTX has identified the collection and annotation of task-specific data as a critical challenge in developing effective vision-language-action models. Looking ahead, HTX plans to proceed with capability building, trials, and validation to ensure the humanoid robots can reliably perform defined tasks alongside officers. The success of this initiative will depend on the transition from demonstrations to consistent operational capabilities, which will ultimately determine the program's effectiveness in public safety applications. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
