Electra has revealed plans to establish an $850 million manufacturing plant in Ohio, aimed at producing the EL9 Ultra Short aircraft. The site selection process took approximately one year, focusing on infrastructure, expansion capacity, and access to skilled workforce in aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
This facility will be strategically located at Airpark Ohio, near Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport and Dayton International Airport, enhancing Electra's operational capabilities. The region's existing advanced air mobility resources and proximity to Joby Aviation's manufacturing facilities further underscore the significance of this investment in the aerospace sector.
Electra is also working towards obtaining airworthiness certification from the FAA for its aircraft, with the first flight expected in late 2027 or early 2028. This new plant builds on Electra's recent agreement with Safran Helicopter Engines to develop the TG600 turbogenerator, which will power the Ultra Short aircraft, marking a significant step in Electra's growth trajectory.
