Agility Robotics' Journey: From Cassie to the Latest Digit 5 Model

Agility Robotics has developed five versions of its Digit humanoid over the past decade, showcasing significant technological advancements. The company, which originated from the Dynamic Robotics Lab at OSU, has expanded to three offices and over 400 employees, with a factory capable of producing 10,000 robots annually. The latest iteration, Digit 5, reflects the company's focus on practical applications in partner facilities.

The evolution from Cassie, a bipedal robot designed for speed, to Digit illustrates Agility's growth and innovation in humanoid robotics. Cassie, introduced in 2016, set a Guinness World Record in 2022 for the fastest 100 meters by a bipedal robot. The first Digit was launched in 2017, marking Agility's entry into the humanoid market, and by 2019, the company began commercializing Digit for tasks like package delivery and warehouse operations.

Looking ahead, Agility's Digit 4, released in 2023, was the last model featuring the bird-like legs, transitioning the company into a new phase of deployment and practical use. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.
