German formwork and scaffolding group whose PERI 3D Construction unit printed Germany's first 3D-printed house and Europe's largest printed building.
PERI SE is a German family-run manufacturer and supplier of formwork and scaffolding systems, headquartered in Weissenhorn, Bavaria. Founded in 1969 and now in its second generation of family management, the group reported turnover of EUR 1,862 million in 2025 and employs around 10,000 people. It operates more than 140 warehouse locations in over 60 countries through a network of subsidiaries. Its portfolio spans formwork, scaffolding, civil infrastructure solutions, panel products, construction accessories, engineering services and digital solutions. PERI also describes itself as a leading supplier of 3D construction printing, a business it has built up since 2018.
PERI's 3D printing work began with an innovation project launched in 2015 to identify disruptive construction technologies. In 2018 PERI ran its first printing trials and took a minority stake in Danish printer maker COBOD as a strategic partner, and in 2019 it showed 3D construction printing publicly at bauma. In 2020 it sold the first COBOD BOD2 printer, to a regional precast manufacturer, and completed Germany's first 3D-printed residential house, a fully approved two-storey home in Beckum, which later won the German Innovation Award. The same year it built a three-storey, five-apartment building in Wallenhausen, then Europe's largest 3D-printed multi-family house. In 2021 PERI entered the US with a 160 m2 house in Tempe, Arizona, printed Austria's first 3D-printed building (a 125 m2 office for Strabag in Hausleiten), and completed the first storey extension of a residential building by 3D printing, in Lindau.
In 2022 the business was spun off as PERI 3D Construction GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary also based in Weissenhorn. It printed the first multi-storey 3D-printed building in the US, in Houston, and printed a tiny house live at bauma. In 2023 it launched 3D MATCONTROL, a sensor-based assistance system that monitors printing-material quality. It also completed the 54-metre Wavehouse in Heidelberg, Europe's largest 3D-printed building, occupied from January 2024. Other 2023 firsts were a 3D-printed public building in Nordkirchen and a publicly funded multi-family house in Lunen. In 2024 it printed Switzerland's first 3D-printed building, a 150 m2 showroom for Kobelt AG, in 55 hours, and developed the DREIHAUS multi-family concept with planners Korte-Hoffmann. In 2025 it printed France's first on-site 3D-printed multi-family house in the Champagne region and supported customer MATTHAI on a building in Selsingen, and three DREIHAUS buildings with 21 units are under construction in Heidelberg.
PERI 3D Construction sells and rents the COBOD BOD2 modular gantry printer together with silo, mixing pump, planning, about two weeks of training and site support. It reports more than 15 projects for, with and by customers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the USA. The BOD2 reaches up to 1 m/s, prints walls in up to a 13.5 m wide and 9 m high configuration of practically unlimited length, and works with any printable material up to 10 mm aggregate. The DREIHAUS concept comes in S, M and L sizes with 6 to 9 apartments of 46 to 89 m2, from EUR 2,900 per m2 ready for occupancy.
