"There shouldn't be anyone who cannot afford a prosthetic limb because of money."
Korean maker of low-cost 3D-printed myoelectric prosthetic hands and the 7-DOF Mark 7 robot hand with in-finger BLDC micro actuators for humanoids.
Mand.ro Co., Ltd. (Korean: Mandro) is a South Korean developer of electronic prosthetic hands and robot hands, headquartered in Chunui Techno Park 2 in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province. The company was incorporated on 15 October 2015 and is led by CEO and founder Lee Sang-ho. It began by developing low-cost, 3D-printed myoelectric hands for upper-limb amputees, with the stated mission that nobody should be unable to afford a prosthetic limb because of money. Company databases list around nine employees in 2026. Mand.ro also operates a Middle East office in Amman, Jordan.
The core prosthetic product, the Mand.ro Hand, is a custom-made myoelectric hand produced on demand: the residual limb is 3D-scanned, the socket and hand are modelled and printed, and assembly takes about one week from the first meeting, followed by one to two hours of fitting and training. The official site lists the terminal device from 1,000 US dollars (excluding socket and glove), with 15 joints, five to eight grasp patterns, one- or two-channel EMG control and a weight of 260 to 320 g. Configurations range from partial-hand and wrist devices (500 to 650 g) to below-elbow, above-elbow and up-to-shoulder prostheses (up to 2.4 kg), and the component range includes the Mark5 and Mark5s myoelectric hands, cosmetic hands with flexible joints, EMG sensors, batteries and charging cradles. Hardware carries a one-year limited warranty.
The Mark 7 platform moves the actuators into the fingers. According to a product listing, each finger contains a 10 mm brushless DC micro motor with embedded sensors, a two-stage reducer with an overall ratio of roughly 2000:1 to 4000:1 delivering about 1 to 2 kgf·cm at the fingertip, and a 24 x 8 x 1.2 mm control board with Hall-effect sensors. The Mark 7D version, a robotic finger prosthesis for people with partial-hand amputations, received a CES 2024 Best of Innovation award in the accessibility category; it was developed with support from the Korea Medical Device Development Fund to localise production of the motors and reducers. The company targets a price of 500 to 1,000 US dollars per robotic finger unit and had tested the design with more than ten amputees by mid-2023.
Building on the same actuators, Mand.ro sells the Mark 7 robotic hand for robots. Humanoid.guide describes it as a lightweight, human-sized hand with seven degrees of freedom and proprietary micro actuators integrated in the fingers, with modular options for finger design, hand size, grip strength, speed and finger length, aimed at humanoid robots, service robots and research; it was listed as in production and available on backorder in 2026. Korean press reports that the company is productising hands and arms for humanoid and autonomous robots, supplied a humanoid robot for a fashion brand pop-up store in January 2024, and demonstrated upper-body humanoid motion at CES 2024.
Mand.ro received seed investment from Future Play and support from Korea's TIPS programme in 2017, and through KOICA's CTS programme supplied prosthetics to amputees in Syria, Iraq and Palestinian refugee communities. In July 2024 it raised a 1.5 billion won pre-Series A round from Doosan Investment, BA Partners, Capstone Partners and Meliora Partners to expand into robot markets, add precision manufacturing equipment and grow overseas sales.
