"Build Smarter With Hyperion Robotics"
Finnish maker of robotically 3D-printed, low-carbon concrete foundations and drawpits for utilities, supplied to National Grid and Costain.
Hyperion Robotics is a Finnish construction-technology company that produces precast concrete infrastructure components, mainly foundations and underground chambers, using robotic 3D printing, computational design and low-carbon concrete mixes. It was founded in 2020 by Fernando De los Rios (chief executive), Ashish Mohite (chief technology officer) and Henry Unterreiner (construction lead), and its office is at Vitikka 6 in Espoo. The company sells to utilities, energy networks and infrastructure contractors rather than to house builders.
Its process starts with a site-specific digital design, which is optimised with finite-element structural analysis to remove unnecessary material. A robotic arm then extrudes concrete layer by layer, and steel reinforcement is placed at pre-programmed points during printing; after curing and quality checks, the components are installed on site without formwork. Hyperion says its mixes can incorporate recycled industrial materials such as slag, fly ash and mine tailings, including zero-cement options. Through the EU-funded 3DGeoCarbon project it is developing carbon-negative concrete made from industrial side streams together with specialised robotic print heads; the European Innovation Council selected the company for its Accelerator in July 2024 with a grant of about EUR 2.37 million plus an equity commitment, and the European Investment Bank joined its board in December 2025.
The product catalogue comprises Helios, Orion and Atlas foundations (small, medium and large), Nexus square and round drawpits, Hypnos sleeper foundations, and code-compliance and design services. Named customers and partners include National Grid, Costain, Mott MacDonald Bentley, United Utilities, Yorkshire Water, Anglian Water and Peikko, and case studies cover ski-lift foundations at Hemavan in Sweden, Fastned EV-charging infrastructure and the East Coast Cluster CO2 pipeline with Costain. For Welsh Water's Usk Reservoir upgrade it supplied 66 pipe-support foundation units, which it says avoided about 560 tonnes of concrete and 70 tonnes of embodied CO2. In June 2025 it announced a partnership with National Grid to trial 3D-printed substation foundations, designed and produced in Finland, load-tested by the University of Sheffield and field-tested at National Grid's Deeside Centre for Innovation; Hyperion claims 70% material savings, 80% less soil displacement, 65% lower lifecycle CO2 and 50% fewer site operative hours for that design.
The company is moving to a distributed model of robotic microfactories placed close to project sites. Forge I, its first UK site, is being set up at Flixborough near Scunthorpe in partnership with LKAB and is designed to produce more than 30 foundations a week, while a portable Forge 2 platform and a Forge software platform linking design, structural engineering, code compliance, robotics and factory operations are in development. In July 2026 Hyperion raised USD 7.4 million in a growth round co-led by Course Corrected and the EIC Fund, with RE Ventures and existing investors Lifeline Ventures, Ubermorgen Ventures and PC Rettig Impact & Co, bringing total capital raised to nearly USD 20 million.
