Kochi maker of TUNA and TROUT inspection ROVs and the iBOAT ALPHA USV, with EVAP analytics; supplying military-grade TROUT ROVs to the Indian Navy.
EyeROV is the brand of IROV Technologies Pvt. Ltd., a marine robotics company headquartered at Maker Village in the Kerala Technology Innovation Zone, Kalamassery, Kochi. It was founded in 2016 by IIT alumni Johns T. Mathai (CEO) and Kannappa Palaniappan P. (CTO) and designs, builds and operates remotely operated vehicles, unmanned surface vessels and inspection software for infrastructure, energy, maritime, research and defence customers. The company lists an office in Doha, Qatar, and says it operates in India, the GCC, Europe and Southeast Asia.
The product line has three vehicles. TUNA is an observation-class ROV with a 4K camera and 10x optical zoom, a 100 m depth rating, 3,000-lumen LED lighting, a top speed of 2 knots, a 75 m neutrally buoyant tether and an autonomous navigation mode; payload options include imaging sonar, an underwater positioning system and an echo sounder. TROUT is EyeROV's military-grade ROV, rated to 300 m, with dual HD/4K cameras with 10x zoom, six-degree-of-freedom manoeuvring, speeds above 3 knots, 6,000-lumen lighting and a 400 m neutrally buoyant tether. It can carry imaging and side-scan sonar, a three-DoF robotic arm with grabber, rope cutter and recovery jaws, a single-function gripper, a Doppler velocity log and an ultrasonic thickness gauge for non-destructive testing. iBOAT ALPHA is an autonomous unmanned surface vessel for remote inspection, surveillance and monitoring, with autonomous navigation, a precision echo sounder, side-scan sonar, 360-degree video and obstacle avoidance, remote control at up to 5 km, a top speed of 3 m/s and an optional water-quality sensor. The vehicles are flown through EyeROV's i-Control Hub piloting software.
Data from inspections is processed in the EyeROV Visualization and Analytics Platform (EVAP), which offers deep-learning enhancement and colour correction of underwater video, 2D and 3D reconstruction of inspection sites, point-cloud reconstruction of structures such as tunnels, telemetry overlays on live video and customised report management. The company sells vehicles and also delivers inspection as a service. Its website cites more than 150 completed projects, 800 field days, 2,500 ROV inspection hours and 12 products delivered, and press coverage in 2026 cited more than 80 clients and a proprietary capability for long water-tunnel inspections of up to 10 km.
Typical work includes inspection of dams, water tunnels, bridge foundations, subsea pipelines, offshore oil and gas assets and ports, as well as coral-reef monitoring, marine research and search and recovery. Organisations shown as clients or partners include the Indian Coast Guard, DRDO, CSIR-NIO, CSIR-SERC, NCPOR, NTPC, Tata Power, KSEB, THDC India, Adani, Bharat Petroleum, GAIL, Indian Railways, ITD Cementation, Maersk, DP World, PSA and Veolia. Press reports also name NHPC and ONGC.
Defence is a growing line. On 30 September 2025 EyeROV announced a contract worth about INR 47 crore from the Indian Navy for underwater remotely operated vehicles, supported by the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) programme. In October 2026 it delivered the first two TROUT systems of a five-unit order after trials under the Directorate of Quality Assurance (Naval) framework covering manoeuvrability, deep-dive capability, current performance, navigation, endurance and operator control. EyeROV describes TROUT as the first military-grade underwater ROV designed, developed, manufactured and qualified to military standards in India.
EyeROV is venture backed. Early funding came from GAIL (India) Ltd, the Department of Science and Technology, Venture Center Pune and angel investors, followed by Unicorn India Ventures. In February 2026 it raised INR 13 crore in a pre-Series A round co-invested by AWE Funds and Unicorn India Ventures, which the CEO described as a precursor to a planned USD 10 million Series A. Awards include the National Startup Award, a place among the League of 10 winners at NASSCOM Emerge 50 in 2025, the DRDO Dare to Dream award, the GITEX India Fast award and recognition in the Qualcomm Design India Challenge.
Its management system is certified by Bureau Veritas under UKAS accreditation to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018, covering design, development, manufacturing and servicing of underwater, surface and ground robotic systems and inspection and survey services; the certificate is valid until April 2029. The team numbers more than 80 people.
