EVENT OVERVIEW

OCEANS 2027 Aberdeen, the MTS/IEEE conference and exposition on ocean engineering, will be held June 21–24, 2027 at P&J Live in Aberdeen, Scotland; the OCEANS future-conferences page lists June 20–24, including a tutorial day. The event is run by the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society and the Marine Technology Society, with the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University as local hosts. OCEANS is held twice a year, with one edition in North America and one in Europe or Asia-Pacific; Aberdeen hosts the 2027 non-US edition, its third after 2007 and 2017.

The official site expects more than 800 attendees, over 50 exhibitors and 400-plus technical papers. The OCEANS program traditionally covers autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicles, marine autonomy, underwater acoustics and communications, ocean observing and offshore-energy technology, making it one of the main academic venues for AUV and ROV research. Aberdeen's offshore oil, gas and renewables supply chain, much of which uses ROVs for subsea inspection and intervention, gives the conference a strong industry audience. A Student Poster Competition is planned, with funding for about 20 students. Call-for-papers dates had not been published as of September 2026.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Traditional OCEANS tracks on AUV/ROV technology, marine autonomy, underwater acoustics and communications, and ocean observing

  • Exhibition of 50+ ocean-technology companies

  • Student Poster Competition (about 20 funded students)

  • Tutorial day before the main conference

  • Third OCEANS held in Aberdeen (after 2007 and 2017), in a subsea-industry hub

RECOMMENDED ATTENDEES

Researchers and graduate students in underwater robotics, marine autonomy and acoustics; engineers at AUV, ROV and subsea-sensor companies; offshore oil, gas and wind operators running subsea inspection; defense and naval research labs; ocean-observing and hydrographic agencies; and Chinese marine-engineering universities and subsea-robotics firms seeking IEEE-indexed publication, exhibition exposure and European research partners.
