Company Overview

Bioness Medical, Inc. is a rehabilitation technology company based at 25103 Rye Canyon Loop in Valencia, California. It describes its work as developing neuromodulation systems, robotic systems and software-based therapy programs for people with central nervous system disorders and orthopedic injuries, such as stroke and multiple sclerosis. Its product range covers functional electrical stimulation, body weight support, robotic gait training, neuromodulation and interactive rehabilitation.

The business traces back to Bioness Inc., which was based in Valencia and was acquired by the orthopedic company Bioventus on 30 March 2021. The deal comprised 45 million US dollars up front and up to 65 million dollars in milestone payments. Bioventus later separated Bioness's peripheral nerve stimulation line from what it called the Advanced Rehabilitation business. On 1 October 2024 it announced an agreement to sell that rehabilitation business to Accelmed Partners, a private equity firm focused on health technology. The price was 45 million dollars in total, including 25 million at closing and up to 20 million in earn-outs. At the time the business generated about 50 million dollars in annual revenue. It now operates as Bioness Medical, Inc., and the current website no longer refers to Bioventus. In June 2025 Bioness Medical acquired the assets and business of Harmonic Bionics, an Austin, Texas developer of a bilateral upper-extremity robotic exoskeleton.

The company's main robotic product is Vector, also called the Vector Gait and Safety System. It is a ceiling-mounted robotic trolley that follows the patient's ascent, descent and movement along the ground while unloading a programmed amount of body weight. This lets patients practise walking, balance and functional tasks with less risk of falls for both patients and clinicians. Bioness announced the first US installations in 2013, at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute, Cincinnati Children's Hospital and WakeMed Rehabilitation Hospital. The robotic trolley runs on a conductive rail and is controlled through a wireless software interface. The Vector Elite labeling sets a 500 lb patient weight limit. In September 2026 the company announced the commercial launch of HaloPlex, a ceiling-mounted, FDA-registered system that adds dynamic body weight support and overhead fall protection with multidirectional movement over a larger therapy space.

Bioness is developing AURA, which it presents as the first bilateral upper-extremity exoskeleton designed to reflect natural human movement for high-intensity functional therapy. AURA guides coordinated shoulder and elbow motion with multi-joint support, configurable range-of-motion limits, adjustable arm weight support and independent control of each arm. It offers Active Freeform, Predefined Exercise and Mirror therapy modes and can be combined with the BITS Functional Reality system. The company states that AURA is under development and not available for sale in the US.

The rest of the portfolio is non-robotic. L300 Go is a functional electrical stimulation system for foot drop, and L360 is a thigh stimulation system for leg strength and knee stability. H200 Wireless uses electrical stimulation to improve hand function. BITS, the Bioness Integrated Therapy System, is a touchscreen platform for assessing and training vision, cognition and balance, and BITS Functional Reality is an immersive rehabilitation system. PoNS is a portable, non-surgical neuromodulation device for gait in multiple sclerosis and chronic stroke, and Bioness announced a 510(k) clearance for stroke patients in June 2026. In September 2026 Bioness also announced a partnership with OneStep to add objective movement data to mobility rehabilitation.
