KONGSBERG Introduces Aegir SSA: Advanced Sonar Family for Enhanced Subsea Awareness

KONGSBERG has launched the Aegir SSA (Subsea Situational Awareness), a new family of sonars aimed at improving maritime security and navigation. Unveiled at ONS 2026 in Stavanger, the Aegir range is designed to provide continuous underwater awareness for ports, critical infrastructure, and offshore assets.

This innovative sonar solution leverages over 80 years of KONGSBERG's sonar expertise, featuring high-performance acoustic technology and scalable deployment options. The Aegir SSA includes an AI-powered virtual sonar operator service, allowing for operation without constant human oversight, tailored for specific missions.

As the need for underwater awareness grows, particularly in busy maritime environments, the Aegir family aims to enhance detection and tracking of submerged objects. KONGSBERG's collaboration with Fugro for a live demonstration at ONS showcases the system's capabilities in real-time monitoring and data delivery. No further timeline was disclosed at the time of publication.

Editor's Note

The launch of KONGSBERG's Aegir SSA underscores the increasing importance of advanced sonar technology in maritime operations. As global maritime infrastructure faces rising security challenges, the integration of AI and scalable sonar solutions will be crucial for enhancing situational awareness and operational safety in complex underwater environments.
