Beijing Surgerii Robotics Company Limited (SHURUI Robotics) is a Chinese high-tech medical device enterprise focused on the research, development, production, and commercialization of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical robotic systems. Founded in 2016 by Dr. Kai Xu, a professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the company was established through a technology transfer initiative from the university's robotics research program. The company's flagship product, the SHURUI Single-port Endoscopic Surgical System (SR-ENS-600), is the world's first regulatory-approved single-port surgical robot equipped with snake-like flexible instruments. The system operates through a single 2.5 cm incision, enabling surgeons to perform complex procedures with a high degree of dexterity. The core enabling technology is a proprietary dual continuum mechanism that uses dozens of flexible superelastic nitinol rods to achieve a wide range of motion, strong payload capacity, and high reliability during demanding surgical procedures.
The SHURUI system provides an immersive tele-operation experience, including 3D visualization and motion scaling, allowing surgeons to precisely control the flexible instruments from a console. The robot's design minimizes patient trauma, reduces post-operative pain, shortens hospital stays, and improves cosmetic outcomes compared to multi-port laparoscopic approaches.
Regulatorily, the SR-ENS-600 has received clearance from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for urological and gynecological laparoscopic surgeries. It has also obtained CE marking in Europe covering urologic, gynecologic, general laparoscopic, and thoracoscopic surgical procedures, enabling clinical use across multiple geographies. The system has been deployed in major Chinese hospitals, where it has been used to perform procedures including breast cancer and thyroid cancer surgeries at institutions such as Huashan Hospital in Shanghai.
Surgerii Robotics has attracted significant investor interest, raising approximately $100 million to accelerate global commercialization of its single-port platform. The company's mission is to become a globally recognized medical robot enterprise, bringing safe, effective, and minimally invasive surgical solutions to patients worldwide.
