Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery GmbH is a world-leading manufacturer of injection moulding machines for plastics processing, headquartered in Schwaig near Nuremberg, Germany. The company was formed in spring 2008 through the merger of the injection moulding activities of Sumitomo Heavy Industries (SHI) of Japan and the Demag Plastics Group of Germany, itself a successor to the plastics machinery business once held within the Mannesmann conglomerate. Today the company is fully owned by Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. and operates five manufacturing facilities across Japan, Germany, and China, employing over 3,000 people worldwide.

With more than 88,000 machine installations globally, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag is recognized as the leading producer of all-electric injection moulding machines. The company's signature product lines include the IntElect series, a high-precision, energy-efficient all-electric machine range renowned for its direct-drive concept developed exclusively for injection moulding applications, and the El-Exis high-speed hybrid series for packaging and thin-wall applications.

Beyond machine technology, Sumitomo (SHI) Demag offers an integrated automation portfolio under the S.A.M. (Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Automation Machine) brand. The SAM-C series are Cartesian pick-and-place robots available in 3, 5, 10, and 20 kg payload variants, designed for injection moulding machines with clamping forces from 50 to 500 tons and cycle times of 10 seconds and above. The SAM-S is a 6-axis hybrid robot combining SCARA kinematics with a linear axis, available in 12 kg and 25 kg payload sizes for machines with 130 to 1,000 tons clamping force. Both robot lines integrate directly with the company's injection moulding machines via the myConnect web-based software platform, enabling remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and total cost of ownership optimization across networked production cells.
