Roborn Technology Limited is a Hong Kong robotics company based at Cyberport that develops motion-control-based robots and related 5G, AI, IoT and cloud solutions. It was co-founded in 2017 by Eden Lu, who serves as managing director, and Dr. Mark Mak, the co-founder and CTO, an HKUST-trained electronic engineer who invented the company's motion-control humanoid robot; Prof. Larry Poon is also listed as a co-founder. The group operates through Roborn Technology Limited, Roborn HC Limited, Roborn PM Limited, Roborn DT Limited and Roborn Tech Licensing Limited, and promotes a concept it calls "Techanization", meaning the integration of technology into an ecosystem to raise productivity.
Humanoid robot. The ME series is a 1:1 humanoid that mimics the operator's body movements in real time using motion detection and Roborn's control algorithms. A camera in the robot's head streams a first-person view to VR goggles, and a head sensor in the goggles steers the robot's head. The robot's arm, hand and fingers can be controlled remotely with precision, so it can be used for remote inspection in hazardous environments, robotics and AI education, telepresence for business and healthcare, and entertainment. According to the company, the 5G motion-control humanoid project was supported by ZTE and China Mobile as strategic partners.
Other products. The website lists a robot controlling system; education robots (the language-learning social robot Joey, the 5G AI publicity robot Mr. Safegg and the STEM education robot FUTURE); property-management solutions (video analytics, a testing and commissioning robot, an indoor environmental quality monitoring robot, the conference assistant robot STAGE, the contactless lift button kNOw Touch and an autonomous people mover); a large-scale reverse vending machine; health products (the clinical assistant robot CARE, outdoor disinfection robot SAU WU, 5G remote health diagnostic robot FREEDOM, anti-pandemic robot PEP3000, UVC disinfection robot UNICORN and a fast fever scanner); and productivity robots including the barista robot R Cafe, the Telecapture autonomous robot-arm control platform and the "Robot Tank" cooperative roadwork vehicle, which trims grass, collects and places up to 40 traffic cones, washes tunnel walls over 3.5 m high and paints road markings using vision feedback, 5G remote control and fleet management.
Recognition. Awards include the Grand Award for equipment and machinery design at the Hong Kong Awards for Industries 2018, Grand and Gold awards in the Startup categories of the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2019, and further Hong Kong Awards for Industries recognitions in 2019, 2021 and 2023-2024.
