Company Overview

Plantium is an Argentine precision-agriculture manufacturer founded in the late 1990s in Villa Constitucion, Santa Fe province, by its president Jorge Gentili. The company began by developing electronics for agricultural machinery; its first project was a monitor that warned when a belt slipped on a combine harvester. It has a factory in Villa Constitucion and research and development offices in Rosario, and describes its products as fully made in Argentina. In 2025 Plantium had four business units (automation, seeding, spraying and robotics) and about 300 people across the two companies that make it up.

Automation products include tractor autopilot (auto-steering) systems in mechanical and hydraulic versions, offered both as retrofits and factory-installed on new tractors through a partnership with Argentine tractor maker Pauny. In seeding, Plantium developed the ecuRow retrofit system for existing planters, with features such as automatic section shut-off, active singulation and variable-rate dosing, plus components marketed as ActiveForce, ActiveSingulation, vED750, RowCleaner, RowConditioner, PowerUnit and the SBOX controller. It also designed its own precision planter, Velosofia AIR, and the SmartRow seeding row unit, and announced an alliance with planter manufacturer Giorgi to build a precision seeder capable of working at about 18 km/h.

In spraying, the ocuWeed and ocuWeed 360 systems use cameras, sensors and artificial intelligence to detect weeds in both fallow (green-on-brown) and in-crop (green-on-green) conditions and apply herbicide only where weeds are found, with day-and-night operation, variable dose, automatic shut-off and retrofit installation on existing sprayers; the company claims herbicide savings of around 80 percent. The Active Nozzle product provides individual nozzle control.

At Expoagro 2020 Plantium presented Terran, an autonomous, remotely supervised electric robot for selective spraying that navigates by satellite positioning along pre-mapped routes. Published specifications include a 600-litre tank covering more than 50 hectares per load, a 10-metre working width, a maximum speed of 18 km/h and 8 hours of autonomous operation, with batteries charged in 3 to 4 hours or powered via an on-board generator.
