3D-printed wall and home-panel maker, now a brand of LUMUS Inc., printing a patented composite stone into Mighty Wall System panels.
Mighty Buildings is a US construction-technology brand that manufactures 3D-printed building envelope panels and kit homes, and since its restructuring it has become a brand of LUMUS Inc.; its website now states that "Mighty Buildings is now a brand of LUMUS INC." and PitchBook lists the company as acquired by Lumus and operating as a subsidiary, with headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. LUMUS Inc. is unrelated to Lumus Ltd., the Israeli augmented-reality optics company.
The company was founded in California in 2017 by Slava Solonitsyn and Dmitry Starodubtsev, went through Y Combinator, and added Sam Ruben and Alexey Dubov as co-founders in 2018. After its first 3D-printed accessory dwelling unit in 2019 it moved into a 79,000 sq ft facility, and the same year it became the first company certified under UL 3401, the standard for evaluating 3D-printed building structures and assemblies. It launched a B2B platform for developers, a second-generation material and a new kit system in 2021, and in 2022 built what it calls the first zero-net-energy 3D-printed community in California with developer partners. In March 2023 it opened a factory in Monterrey, Mexico, able to produce the components for an entire home each operating day and print panels for one to two homes a day. Investors including Khosla Ventures, BOLD Capital Partners, ArcTern Ventures and Wa'ed Ventures backed it with more than USD 150 million from over 100 shareholders, including a USD 52 million round in September 2023. In January 2025 the company laid off staff and ran a sale process through Rock Creek Advisors, which led to the LUMUS ownership.
Production is automated and off-site. Panels are 3D printed in the Mighty Factory from LUMUS, a patented composite stone that the company says is stronger and lighter than concrete and contains 60% sustainably sourced and recycled components, then finished by automated precision milling for smoothing, textures and engravings, insulated with PU foam in a near-zero-waste process, and coated robotically with an epoxy primer and acrylic paint. The current offer is the Mighty Wall System: MWS Residential, a load-bearing panel that needs no superstructure, and MWS Commercial, which attaches to a superstructure and adapts to different designs, sizes and finishes. The company says a complete wall assembly can be installed in as little as three days by a crew of four, and that the system has been fire, wind and seismic tested. A featured project is a site office in Dubai.
The earlier Mighty Kit System combines 3D-printed panels, a steel structural frame certified up to four storeys, installation hardware and exterior doors, windows and roof cassettes; its wall assembly is 8 inches thick with five material layers and finished faces, the 7-inch insulated printed panel exceeds R-18, surface burning is Class A with a flame spread index of 5 and smoke developed index of 10, and evaluations include EAD 040287-00-0404 for lifespan and ICC-ES AC156 for seismic performance, with an expected life of more than 50 years. Mighty Buildings claims 99% less construction waste than conventional homes and targets fully carbon-neutral houses by 2028; in June 2024 it took part in the US HUD Innovative Housing Showcase and was named on Time's GreenTech list.
