Issy-les-Moulineaux company continuing the NAO humanoid line after Maxvision bought Aldebaran assets in 2025; 20,000+ NAO units sold in 70+ countries.
Maxtronics Robotics SAS is a French robotics company based at 11 rue Camille Desmoulins in Issy-les-Moulineaux, near Paris, that develops, sells and supports the NAO programmable humanoid robot. The company continues the product line created by Aldebaran, the French company behind NAO and Pepper.
Aldebaran entered insolvency proceedings in February 2025. In July 2025 a Hong Kong subsidiary of Maxvision Technology Corp., a Chinese company listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (002990), bought Aldebaran's technology assets and the intellectual property rights to Pepper and NAO at a bankruptcy asset auction for a reported EUR 900,000. Maxvision said existing teams would continue their work in France, with a French subsidiary handling local research, development and customer service; Maxtronics operates the NAO business and website today.
NAO6, the current production model, is a 58 cm humanoid with 25 degrees of freedom, cameras, microphones, tactile sensors, sonars and an inertial measurement unit, plus multilingual speech. It is programmed with Choregraphe, a low-code tool, and SDKs for Python and C++. Maxtronics states that more than 20,000 NAO robots have been produced, sold and delivered, that NAO is used in over 70 countries with more than 30 international partners, and that more than 3,600 research studies in engineering and human-robot interaction have used the robot.
The company has announced NAO7 as a project preview. Planned changes include a new CPU/GPU architecture, six microphones instead of four, new cameras for person and object detection, new leg actuators with time-of-flight sensors for obstacle detection, hands capable of pointing with fingers, a torso touchscreen, a higher-capacity battery, a modern Python API and fully local AI for vision, speech recognition and language models without cloud dependence. Price and release date had not been announced.
Maxtronics targets education, from primary schools to universities and special education, and healthcare uses such as autism therapy, physical rehabilitation and pediatric and geriatric care. It also offers NAO Activities content and a product catalogue through its website.
