GIPSA-lab is a Grenoble signal, control and speech lab (UMR 5216) of 320 members that builds custom flying robots and the NINA humanoid robot.
GIPSA-lab is a French public research laboratory in Saint-Martin-d'Heres on the Grenoble campus, joint research unit UMR 5216 associated with CNRS, Universite Grenoble Alpes and Grenoble INP. It has about 320 members, including 99 researchers and teacher-researchers and 53 technical and administrative staff, and reports 115 supervised theses.
The lab is organised in four departments: Automatic Control and Systems Safety (teams DANCE, Infinity, MODUS and SAFE), Data Science (COPERNIC, MOVE and PICSA), Geometry, Learning, Information and Algorithms, and Speech and Cognition (ComLearn, PCMD and SyLDO). Technical services cover platforms, mechatronics, software and IT.
Robotics activity includes aerial robotics and embedded software, where the lab builds its own flying robots to validate coordination, control and perception algorithms and to generate flight data for learning-based methods, as well as a flapping-wing drone. In humanoid robotics, the lab operates NINA, an iCub-type robot modified to communicate better with humans, and it has organised events on social and emotional robotics. Biomechanics work models isolated organs such as the hand and larynx and whole bodies of patients, athletes and singers.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
iCub-type humanoid robot modified for face-to-face communication research with humans.
