Its core product, the Archimedes Drive, is a traction-based speed reducer that transmits torque through rolling contact rather than gear teeth, removing backlash from the mechanism entirely. The drive holds lost motion to 0.2 arcminutes over its service life, reaches a torsional stiffness of 19 Nm per arcminute, and runs at up to 85 percent efficiency with single-stage reduction ratios from 25:1 to 200:1. A 95 mm-diameter unit weighs 0.8 kg while transmitting up to 120 Nm of repeated torque, and operating noise stays below 55 dBA. IMSystems packages the mechanism into two families: the Synovial Series, sized for joint actuators in humanoid robots and mobile manipulators, and the Endurance Series, built for industrial robot axes and automation equipment that must hold tolerance through long, high-load duty cycles.
The company is backed by ABB Technology Ventures, Linamar, Finindus, and InnovationQuarter, and runs its engineering and assembly operations from its Rijswijk facility near Delft.
