San Francisco Bay Area humanoid robot startup that launched Domo in May 2026, an affordable developer-focused humanoid starting at $2,999 with 23 DoF.
Rotaku is a humanoid robotics startup headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, United States. The company emerged from stealth in May 2026 with its debut product, Domo, an affordable humanoid robot platform aimed at developers, educators, researchers, and smaller robotics teams.
Rotaku was founded by Takuzen Lu (also known as Zhuoran Lu), who studied computer science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and has a background that includes years living in Japan. The founding team spans mechanical design, industrial design, electrical engineering, embedded systems, motion control, and AI algorithm development.
The Domo platform is offered in two configurations. The Domo Developer is the entry-level model priced at $2,999; it stands 90 cm (35 inches) tall, weighs 20 kg (44 lb), has 23 degrees of freedom, and delivers 70 Nm of motor torque. The Domo Plus Developer is the larger model at $9,899; it stands 130 cm (51 inches) tall, weighs 35 kg (77 lb), has 25 degrees of freedom, and delivers 110 Nm of torque.
Both Domo variants run cable-free, with all electronics, battery, sensors, and onboard computing integrated into an aluminum chassis. Developers connect via Wi-Fi, can deploy AI models directly on the robot, and access the system through SSH. The software stack supports VR-based teleoperation for two-arm motion capture, data collection pipelines for imitation learning and training, gesture recognition, and a voice assistant powered by a large language model.
Rotaku has received backing from a U.S.-based early-stage investment fund. Reservations for Domo were opened in May 2026 following the public announcement. The company's stated goal is to lower the barrier to humanoid hardware for the developer and research community by providing an open, programmable, and cost-accessible platform.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
Entry-level 90cm humanoid robot with 23 DOF, Wi-Fi connectivity, and VR teleoperation for developers at $2,999.
Full-size 130cm humanoid robot with 25 DOF and 110 Nm torque for advanced developer and research use at $9,899.
