Wandercraft is a French robotics company founded in Paris in 2012 by four engineers: Nicolas Simon (robotics club chairman at École Polytechnique), Alexandre Boulanger, Matthieu Masselin, and Jean-Louis Constanza. The company was established with the goal of creating autonomous walking exoskeletons to restore mobility for people unable to walk due to neurological conditions, including paraplegia, hemiplegia resulting from stroke, and multiple sclerosis.
Wandercraft's flagship product is the Atalante X, a hands-free, self-balancing powered lower-limb exoskeleton used in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation centers. Unlike most rehabilitation exoskeletons, Atalante X does not require crutches for balance — its AI-driven stabilization system enables fully hands-free, multidirectional locomotion for patients. The device is manufactured in Paris, France. The original Atalante was CE marked in 2019 and first commercialized that year. Atalante X, the second-generation model, was launched in 2022. By 2025, Atalante X is deployed at more than 100 inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation centers across Europe and the United States.
Regulatory milestones: CE marking was obtained in 2019 (Atalante) and expanded in 2021 to cover complete and incomplete motor paraplegia and hemiplegia secondary to stroke or acquired brain injury. FDA clearance for hemiplegia due to stroke was obtained in 2022. Subsequent FDA indication extensions were granted for spinal cord injury (C4–L5) and multiple sclerosis, with a second FDA indication extension confirmed by November 2025.
Wandercraft's product roadmap includes Eve (a personal-use exoskeleton for home and daily life) and Calvin-40 (additional product line). The company has raised approximately USD 137 million in total funding as of June 2025, including a USD 75 million Series D round (June 2025) with investors including Renault Group, Bpifrance PSIM fund, Teampact Ventures, and Quadrant Management.
