Volvo Group's Eskilstuna-based construction machinery arm, with radar collision mitigation, Connected Map site positioning and electric machines.
Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is the construction machinery business of the Swedish Volvo Group, headquartered in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The company dates its origins to 1832 and an engineering workshop in Eskilstuna, founded by Johan Theofron Munktell, with Jean and Carl Gerhard Bolinder among its founding figures. Volvo CE had about 13,000 employees of 85 nationalities in January 2026 and reported 2025 net sales of SEK 81.6 billion and operating income of SEK 10.9 billion. It sells through 289 dealers in 180 countries under the Volvo and Rokbak brands; its Chinese SDLG brand has been divested. Melker Jernberg is President and CEO.
The product range covers excavators, articulated haulers, wheel loaders, pipelayers, demolition machines and paving equipment, plus custom-made machines through specialist partners. Volvo CE has one of the largest ranges of commercial electric construction machines and says it was the first to move its entire compact range to electric. In 2026 it delivered the first serially produced A30 Electric articulated haulers to Norwegian customer LNS, and its L120 Electric wheel loader has been used underground in Munich. At bauma 2025 the company showed a zero-emission-only line-up, and it is building a new excavator factory in Eskilstuna backed by a SEK 700 million investment.
In automation and digital site technology, Volvo CE offers operator-assistance and connected-site solutions. The Collision Mitigation System, a factory-fit option for L110H to L260H wheel loaders that requires the Radar Detect System, detects likely collisions when reversing at 3 to 15 km/h and automatically applies the service brakes for two to three seconds to slow or stop the machine before the operator takes over. Connected Map provides real-time visibility of machines, personnel and vehicles on a jobsite; Task Manager lets customers set work targets and track progress; Connected Load Out coordinates truck traffic and loader use during load-out; and the company also offers AI-powered fluid analysis and a CO2 Reduction Program. Fleet data and real-time operations management form part of its services. Autonomous transport solutions within the Volvo Group are handled by a separate business area, Volvo Autonomous Solutions, which is listed separately in the RobotToday Directory.
Volvo CE holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification and has a target, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, to be fully fossil-free by 2040.
