UKRSPECSYSTEMS is a Ukrainian defense technology company founded in 2014 at the onset of the Russian occupation of Crimea. The company specializes in the design, development, and production of advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for military reconnaissance, surveillance, and combat support missions. Its flagship products — the PD-1, PD-2, SHARK, and MINI SHARK — are deployed extensively by Ukrainian armed forces and have proven operationally effective in modern contested-airspace environments.
The PD-2 is a fixed-wing, medium-range UAS with an optional VTOL module, capable of flying up to 200 km with payloads including electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) camera gimbals. It features an 8–10 hour endurance, a 55 kg maximum takeoff weight, and a 5-meter wingspan. The SHARK is a long-range surveillance platform designed for deep-penetration ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) missions, adapted to carry small precision munitions.
Beyond airframes, UKRSPECSYSTEMS develops stabilized EO/IR camera gimbals, jamming-resistant antenna and tracking systems, pneumatic catapult launchers, ground control stations, and supporting software. The company also conducts operator training programs and provides maintenance and lifecycle support.
In response to expanded demand, UKRSPECSYSTEMS announced in September 2025 a £200 million investment to establish drone manufacturing facilities in Suffolk, United Kingdom, including a factory in Mildenhall and a test site at Elmsett Airfield. This facility aims to produce up to 200 surveillance drones per month, scaling to 1,000 per month in the longer term, manufacturing PD-2 and SHARK-M variants for NATO-aligned customers.
UKRSPECSYSTEMS has also participated in R&D on the Octopus interceptor drone, a low-cost counter-UAS platform designed to engage loitering munitions such as the Iranian-designed Shaheed-136. The company operates at the intersection of defense technology, precision manufacturing, and electronic systems integration, and is recognized as one of Ukraine's foremost indigenous UAS manufacturers.
