Trexo Robotics

Trexo Robotics is a Canadian medical robotics company founded in 2016 and headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario. The company was co-founded by Manmeet Maggu (CEO) and Rahul Udasi, both graduates of the University of Waterloo's robotics program. Trexo participated in the Y Combinator W19 cohort and previously completed the Techstars New York accelerator, raising approximately $1.54 million in total documented seed funding across six rounds from nine investors.

The company's flagship product is the Trexo Plus, a pediatric lower-limb robotic exoskeleton designed to provide overground gait training for children with neuromotor and musculoskeletal conditions including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), pediatric stroke, and spinal cord injury. The device mounts onto a compatible gait trainer (such as the Rifton Pacer) and uses motorized hip and knee joints to guide a child's legs through a natural walking pattern. Sensors at the hip and knee joints detect trunk and limb movement, enabling the exoskeleton to assist or fully complete a step depending on the child's residual motor capacity.

The Trexo Plus is available in four sizes, accommodating children from as young as age one through users up to 5 feet 9 inches in height, with a maximum supported weight of 150 lbs. Clinical settings use a tablet interface operated by trained physiotherapists and rehabilitation specialists. The system is deployed in over 400 units at rehabilitation centers, children's hospitals, and schools across North America, including placements at McMaster Children's Hospital and various Calgary school pilot programs. The company reports cumulative tracked steps exceeding 100 million.

The company also offers a Trexo Home model intended for family use, allowing children to benefit from daily walking practice outside of clinical settings. Clinically tracked benefits include improvements in cognitive development, bone mineral density, cardiovascular function, and sleep patterns.
