Norwegian start-up selling Synthia, a modular 165-190 cm companion android with 23 servos and offline on-device AI, from US$6,490.
Syntheva AS, trading as Syntheva Robotics, is a Norwegian company established in 2024 and based in Orkanger, Trondelag, that designs low-cost, lifelike humanoid companion robots for home use. Its stated goal is to make full-size humanoids affordable to private households rather than only to large companies, by designing them from the ground up for manufacturability and modular upgrades. The company says its first production units are with early customers and that it customises its SNT-01x series robots to individual orders.
Synthia (SNT-01A). Syntheva's main product is a full-size, fully articulated humanoid companion with a realistic face and synthetic skin. According to the official specification page, Synthia's height can be set between 165 and 190 cm and she weighs 9.8 to 12.0 kg depending on options. Movement and body positioning come from 23 servos. Inputs are dual cameras, a microphone and tactile and force sensors; outputs include a speaker, a 2.4-inch IPS display on the chest panel and a 4-inch display on the back of the head for direct control of the AI software. The brain board has two user-swappable CPU sockets that can take a Broadcom BCM2712 (base model) or a faster Rockchip RK3588S, with 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM per CPU, up to dual RK3588S with 32 GB. Listed functions are spoken conversation, active lip-sync, gestures and body positioning, visual recognition and tracking of people and objects, and simple object manipulation. The robot is modular and can be bought as a set of parts, starting with a head on a stand and later adding a torso, arms and legs. Custom faces (built from a few photographs), skin colours, hands, body proportions and add-ons are offered on request. A built-in kill switch restricts movement if a dangerous situation is detected while still allowing speech. The homepage gives a starting MSRP of US$6,490 and names a longer-term target price of US$2,500; the company says it is currently focusing on entertainment and companionship functions and will add capabilities through free software and hardware updates for early buyers.
Lyena (SNT-02H). A smaller desktop product, Lyena is an animated robotic face and offline conversational assistant measuring 160 x 370 x 200 mm and weighing 900 g, using the same dual-socket BCM2712 / RK3588S brain board. It offers local voice recognition, an embedded large language model, lip-synced facial animation and stereo-camera perception for face, gesture, text and colour recognition. Syntheva positions it as the cheapest entry point to its platform, as a kit that can be assembled, and as a greeter for small businesses.
Software. Syntheva develops its own software stack, described in its technical articles: the EMMA Engine (EMotional MAchine), an emotional AI engine for companion robots that learns the owner's preferences and routines locally; Always-OFFline Mode (AOF), under which the robot does not connect to the cloud unless the user allows it; EPIA (Easily Parallel Instruction Architecture) for local parallel processing; and an embedded security architecture. The company also runs an online shop and plans a marketplace for clothing-matched hardware such as heel-ready feet, personality packs and animations from community creators, and it publishes code on GitHub.
The company is registered in Norway under organisation number 833 364 022 and invites investors and partners to contact it; no external funding round was found.
