Sodex Innovations GmbH is an Austrian hard-tech startup founded in 2017 and headquartered in Loruns, Vorarlberg, in the western part of Austria. The company focuses on developing assistance systems and automated data-acquisition kits for excavators and other earthmoving equipment, enabling machine operators to perform real-time surveying and site documentation as a byproduct of their normal excavation work.

The core challenge Sodex addresses is that traditional construction site surveying requires dedicated survey crews and interrupts ongoing earthmoving activities. Sodex's systems equip any brand of excavator, loader, or dozer with a combination of LiDAR scanners, cameras, GNSS positioning receivers, and IMU inertial sensors. These sensors continuously capture terrain data while the machine is operating, uploading topographic point clouds and georeferenced imagery wirelessly to the cloud every ten minutes.

Sodex's flagship product, the SDX-4DVision system, uses high-resolution laser scanners and cameras to compute 3D dimensions of excavations in real time, generating up to 38 million georeferenced measurement points per scan. A second product, SDX-Compact, is a lighter-weight, rapidly installable unit that creates a continuous digital twin of the construction site and can be fitted to virtually any machine within minutes.

The company was backed by SOSV's HAX accelerator program, which supports hardware startups, and has also received support through SITECH distribution partnerships. At CONEXPO 2026, Sodex demonstrated its technology in partnership with Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas, confirming its growing presence in the North American market. Sodex has also been recognized at the Smart Building and Smart Construction Innovation World Cup. Its customer value proposition centers on eliminating separate surveying work steps, providing 100 percent project transparency, enabling real-time progress tracking, and supporting automated volume measurement and as-built documentation.
