Company Overview

Shanghai Construction Group Co., Ltd. (SCG) is a state-controlled construction group headquartered in Shanghai and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange under code 600170. The listed company was incorporated on 15 June 1998 and listed on 23 June 1998; its controlling shareholder is Shanghai Construction (Group) General Corporation, owned by the Shanghai municipal government. SCG is organised into five business groups - construction, design consulting, building materials, real estate and urban infrastructure investment - alongside emerging businesses such as urban renewal, ecological environment, water, industrialized construction and new infrastructure. It is one of China's largest ready-mixed concrete producers and precast component suppliers, and it ranked 321st in the 2022 Fortune Global 500 with revenue of about USD 43.6 billion. Landmark projects include Shanghai Tower and Shanghai Disney Resort, and the group reports about 44,000 employees. Construction robotics at SCG combines robots it develops in-house, robots co-developed with Chinese manufacturers and robots bought on the market. Media coverage credits the group with more than 40 robot types across design, construction and operations, including an intelligent grouting robot for diaphragm walls and a remotely operated foundation-excavation robot. Its largest deployment is the Terminal 3 project at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, where 37 types of robots are coordinated by a construction robot cluster management system, described as the first such system on a large civil-aviation project. There, a three-robot flooring crew of a four-wheel laser leveling robot, a crawler smoothing robot and a floor polishing robot handles roughly 700,000 square metres of floor at more than 1,000 square metres per day with flatness deviation within 1 mm. Welding robots on the same project reduce underground welding labour by about 50 percent and raise efficiency by about 30 percent while nearly eliminating rework; a cleaning robot clears up to 500 square metres per hour, and aerial-work robots handle coating, decoration, curtain-wall water testing and cleaning at height. SCG expects robots to shorten the Terminal 3 schedule by 20 percent and cut on-site labour by about 35 percent, with completion targeted for 2028; molding robots and wall-foundation welding robots on the site were developed in-house. In 2025 its subsidiary Shanghai Construction No. 2 (Group) relocated the 7,500-tonne Zhangyuan shikumen complex using 432 small robotic movers at about 10 metres per day, together with remote-controlled drilling robots and soil-excavation robots with folding arms that use deep learning to identify soil types and obstacles, to build a three-level underground development of more than 53,000 square metres. Its subsidiary Shanghai Construction No. 1 Group has also used third-party WEIBUILD plastering and spraying robots on a Xuhui office project.
