"Built to outlast. Engineered to outwalk. Raion leads the way."
Daejeon, South Korea KAIST spin-off founded 2023; builds the Raibo2 quadruped, which ran a full marathon on one charge in 2024.
Raion Robotics Inc. is a South Korean developer of quadruped robots, headquartered on Munji-ro in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, with a second office on Teheran-ro in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It was established in October 2023 as a spin-off of the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Lab (RAI Lab) at KAIST, set up a corporate research institute in March 2024, and builds autonomous legged robots for places that are hard or dangerous for people to reach. Its technical stack combines in-house quadruped hardware, high-torque actuators, simulation and reinforcement-learning-based locomotion control.
The company's product is Raibo2, a second-generation quadruped first shown publicly at CES 2025. Raibo2 uses learning-based gait and posture control that allows it to perform side flips and back flips and recover balance during rapid posture changes, climbs stairs and platform edges, and navigates autonomously with cameras and LiDAR. A modular payload space accepts recognition sensors, communication equipment and mission payloads. The actuator published on the product page delivers a maximum torque of 100 Nm at a rated 48 V, with a maximum speed of 195.8 rpm, rated current of 14.1 A and a weight of 1.8 kg. Company coverage cites an operating time of about eight hours per charge.
Endurance is the robot's best-documented credential. In November 2024 Raibo2 completed the full 42.195 km Sangju Gotgam Marathon in 4 hours 19 minutes 52 seconds without recharging, which Korean media reported as a first for a quadruped robot, and in January 2026 it attempted a climb of Dalmasan in Haenam in strong wind and cold. Target applications listed by the company are real-time situational awareness, thermal imaging, firefighting, critical incident response and industrial safety inspection, and its chief executive has publicly positioned the robot for defence and public-safety markets with a goal of deploying tens of thousands of units within five years.
Raion received seed investment in April 2024 and announced a Series A of 23 billion won in September 2025; investors named in company-listed coverage include Company K Partners and Future Play. In May 2025 it signed a memorandum of understanding with Newbility to jointly develop quadruped robot services. Raibo was also exhibited at ITCE 2025, and the company won a Prime Minister's Award at the Challenge! K-Startup competition in October 2023.
