Phoenix LiDAR Systems, originally founded in 2013 as Phoenix Aerial Systems in Los Angeles, California, is a manufacturer of turnkey, integrated LiDAR scanning systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), manned aircraft, and mobile ground platforms. The company rebranded to Phoenix LiDAR Systems in 2016 to more precisely reflect its LiDAR focus, and relocated its headquarters to Austin, Texas in June 2020, operating from its facility at 2113 Wells Branch Parkway.
Phoenix claims to have been the first company to introduce commercial drone LiDAR to the market. Its product portfolio spans three primary hardware series: the Scout series, designed for mapping-grade data collection at affordable cost; the miniRANGER series, delivering survey-grade LiDAR data and optional high-resolution photogrammetry; and the RANGER series, optimized for maximum vegetation penetration and long-range corridor mapping.
The miniRANGER-3 LITE — the company's current flagship lightweight platform — operates at up to 300,000 shots per second, achieves a laser range of 290 m at 60% reflectivity, supports up to 5 return echoes, weighs 2.2 kg, and can be paired with a 61 MP RTK camera for simultaneous LiDAR and photogrammetry capture at up to 100 m flight altitude. The RANGER ULTRA targets power line, railway, and pipeline inspection corridor mapping applications, with a 100-degree field of view and pulse repetition rates up to 1.8 MHz. The HydroRANGER is an airborne topo-bathymetric system for combined topographic and underwater mapping.
For ground-based mobile mapping, Phoenix offers ruggedized mobile LiDAR configurations compatible with vehicles and backpack platforms. Complementing the hardware is the SpatialExplorer software suite, which provides an end-to-end workflow covering mission planning, data acquisition management, point cloud processing, and deliverable generation. Typical applications include engineering surveys, construction site mapping, mining volumetrics, forestry inventory, and infrastructure inspection. The company serves government agencies, survey firms, and research organizations globally.
