The Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC) is a nonprofit research institute within the State University System of Florida, founded in 1990 in Pensacola. IHMC researchers pioneer science and technology to amplify human cognitive, physical, and perceptual capacities across three domains: Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Robotics, and Healthspan, Resilience & Performance. In humanoid robotics, IHMC developed the Nadia robot—noted for ping-pong and boxing demos—and the next-generation Alex robot, funded by the Office of Naval Research for extreme-environment military and disaster-response missions.
