Beijing Hydro-Tech Marine Technology Co., Ltd. (Hydro-Tech) is a Chinese developer and manufacturer of hydrographic survey and underwater detection equipment. The company was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Tongzhou District, Beijing, with software development in Qingdao (through Qingdao Hydro-Tech Tongchuang Technology, set up in 2022) and a production facility in Tianjin. Its Chinese website states a team of about 150 people, more than 70% of them in R&D, and reports that its equipment has been used in more than 3,000 water bodies for over 1,000 customers, with 2025 sales above RMB 100 million. Hydro-Tech is recognized as a national high-tech enterprise and as a Beijing "specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative" SME.
The company traces its technology to engineers who worked on China's first commercial multibeam echosounder in 2008. Its MS400 multibeam was launched in 2016, followed by the MS200 and the SS3060 side-scan sonar in 2017; exports began between 2019 and 2021, and by 2023 the company described ten product lines.
The multibeam family is the core of the business. The MS8240 is a real-time 3D multibeam with continuously tunable frequency from 150 to 450 kHz (plus 500/600/700 kHz options), 512 or 1,024 beams, across-track beamwidth down to 0.3 degrees at 700 kHz, 160-degree swath, 60 Hz maximum ping rate and 0.75 cm depth resolution. The MS8240-IDH is a dual-head version for wide-swath, large-area surveys. The MS400U is an all-in-one 400 kHz system with 512 beams, a 1 x 2 degree beam, 146-degree swath and a 220 mm transducer weighing 7.5 kg, which the company markets for integration on USVs, ROVs and AUVs. Other models include the MS400UW (compact multi-frequency with embedded GNSS and INS), MS400PW (wideband system for dredging and engineering), MS400P (portable), MS400C (integrated for USV reservoir and lake surveys) and MS8200 (200 kHz for deeper water).
In side-scan sonar, Hydro-Tech sells the dual-frequency SS3060 and SS4090 and the single-frequency 900 kHz SS900, a sub-10 kg system aimed at emergency search and rescue with a 75 m maximum slant range. The ES series (ES900M, ES900, ES450 and ES4590) are embedded side-scan sonars designed for second-stage integration into small USVs, ROVs and AUVs, rated to 1,000 m with Ethernet/RS232 interfaces and eight programmable TTL sync outputs. The range also covers the IS720M imaging sonar, a passive sonar, POS attitude sensors, the SVP1500 sound velocity profiler and SVS1500M surface sound velocity sensor, and software for multibeam acquisition and processing, side-scan acquisition (HydroSonar) and USV control.
Hydro-Tech also builds its own uncrewed survey boats: the Haizhuo 2 and Haizhuo 2 Pro multibeam USVs use a one-piece carbon-fibre hull, carry the company's high-precision multibeam, and use millimetre-wave radar and video sensors for obstacle avoidance. Typical applications are water conservancy and reservoir capacity surveys, inland waterways and ports, bridge-pier scour inspection, offshore wind pile-foundation inspection, hidden-pipeline searches and emergency rescue. The company says its equipment has accompanied the Xuelong icebreaker on Chinese polar expeditions and that it has contributed to three industry standards, including leading the 2022 group standard for underwater side-scan sonar detectors.
Internationally, Hydro-Tech works through authorized partners such as Geohydrocean Services in Malaysia, ran a multibeam demonstration in Jakarta in 2025, and exhibited at Oceanology International 2026 and the IHO Assembly in April 2026. Products are compatible with Hypack, BeamworX and SonarWiz, and the company offers a three-year warranty.
