"Inspect & maintain assets 3x faster."
Birmingham maker of AEROGRIP wall-climbing robots (HB2, HB3) that carry GPR, ultrasonic and camera payloads to inspect tanks, bridges, dams and towers.
HausBots Ltd is a Birmingham, UK, robotics company that builds wall-climbing robots for inspecting and maintaining large vertical structures. It was founded in 2017 by Jack Cornes, now Co-founder and CEO, and Harry Smith, and started out in Smith's parents' garage before moving to Birmingham's Custard Factory; in its first year it won the Baldwins KickStart Young Entrepreneur Awards. Early coverage presented HausBots as a construction-robot start-up whose climbing robot could paint and treat building walls. The company has since shifted its focus to inspection and maintenance of critical assets, and today markets itself with the line "Inspect & maintain assets 3x faster". Its headquarters are at Unit 5a, Waterside Business Park, Pershore Road, Birmingham.
All HausBots robots use AEROGRIP, the company's own suction-and-airflow adhesion system, which lets a tracked robot hold onto and drive over rough or smooth, ferrous or non-ferrous surfaces and cross obstacles such as cables and surface bolts. Because the robot carries the sensor to the surface, inspections can be done without scaffolding, rope access or mobile elevating work platforms.
The current range has two platforms. HB2 is a compact climbing robot for confined spaces and tight-access surveys, generating about 350 N of downforce and carrying payloads of up to 6 kg on columns, tanks and flat walls. HB3 is the larger platform, generating around 1,000 N of downforce, exerting more than 100 kg of reaction force on the surface and carrying up to 25 kg of payload over concrete, brick, stainless steel and more complex surfaces; it is aimed at tanks, bridges and towers. Both share a swappable, modular payload system and can work with customers' existing sensors.
Standard payloads cover visual inspection (PTZ and static cameras), concrete inspection (ground penetrating radar, half-cell potential and MIRA and Pundit ultrasonic tomography) and metal and composite inspection (automated ultrasonic corrosion mapping and surface eddy current), with custom payloads available on request. Target markets named by the company include chemicals, food and beverage, energy and nuclear, and its listed applications include storage tanks, silos, digester tanks, bridges, dams, kilns and wind turbines. Published case studies include a kiln inspection for Cemex, digester tanks, a stainless-steel structure and a wind turbine.
HausBots raised a seed round of about USD 1.9 million in 2022 from investors including Plug and Play, Pi Labs, SOSV, Britbots and the British Robotics Seed Fund. The company remains active in 2026: its news page announces co-founder Jack Cornes presenting at ASNT 2026 in Columbus, Ohio, and the team exhibiting at Materials Testing 2026 in Telford.
