Consequential Robotics Ltd. is a UK-based service-robotics company founded in 2015 as a spin-out from the University of Sheffield, headquartered at the Department of Psychology, Western Bank, Sheffield, England. The company was co-founded by designer Sebastian Conran, Professor Tony Prescott (Director of Sheffield Robotics), and biomimetic roboticist Dr. Ben Mitchinson. Its flagship product, MiRo-B, is a biomimetic robot modelled loosely on mammalian anatomy with six senses, eight degrees of freedom, and a brain-inspired operating system designed to replicate animal neural architectures.
MiRo-B is marketed as a flexible research and therapeutic platform for universities, hospitals, and care facilities. The robot has been used in academic studies exploring companion robots as alternatives to therapy animals, and as a teaching tool for coding and robotics curricula. The company's IP portfolio spans mechatronic design and biomimetic control systems developed in collaboration with University of Sheffield researchers.
