CSCEC's steel-structure arm (formerly China Construction Steel Structure) building its own welding robots, incl. a 9.8 kg on-site flexible welding robot.
China Construction Science and Industry Corporation Ltd. (CSCEC Science and Industry) is the steel-structure platform of China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (CSCEC). It was formerly named China Construction Steel Structure Co., Ltd., and the group still uses both the CSCEC Science and Industry and CSCEC Steel brands. The company calls itself China's largest steel-structure enterprise. It reports more than 1.2 million tonnes of annual steel fabrication capacity, organizes its work through five regional divisions, and runs its own fabrication bases. Its business covers steel-structure specialist contracting, EPC and PPP delivery, building industrialization, and investment and operation of high-end buildings and infrastructure. Its landmark projects include the Shenzhen Development Center Tower, which the company describes as China's first super-high-rise steel-structure building. The group's construction-robotics work comes from its intelligent-manufacturing program. According to Xinhua, this team began steel-structure intelligent-manufacturing research in 2012 and in 2017 built China's first intelligent production line for building steel structures. The company's English site says its R&D staff includes hundreds of specialists in intelligent manufacturing robots, seismic damping, and high-performance materials. The robotics and digital-technology arm is China Construction Science and Industry Intelligent Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., based in Pingshan, Shenzhen. Its portfolio covers both on-site and factory welding. A portable flexible welding robot weighs 9.8 kg and can be carried by two workers. The company reports positioning error within 1 mm, a 99.5% first-pass weld inspection rate, and about 30% higher productivity. It was used to weld eight giant steel columns at the Chengdu Tianfu Center project, the largest 4.5 m on a side with a 15.8 m perimeter. Other products are an embodied collaborative welding robot that learns a 3D seam path when the operator traces it with a handheld pointer, and a laser-arc hybrid welding robot rated at up to 2 m/min. On 20 mm plate the company claims more than ten times the overall efficiency of conventional arc welding. The line-up also includes a rail-mounted shop-floor welding robot with TCP calibration error of 2 mm or less, a portable laser rust-removal unit, a painting drone with a 15 m spray radius, and a programming-free bevel-cutting workstation. These run alongside the Lingxi Cube industrial internet platform for production-line design, simulation, and scheduling. Its steel-structure intelligent-manufacturing scenario, which links AI agents for detailing design, process planning, and scheduling, was selected for the central SOE AI showcase at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference. The company says its robot skills draw on more than one million work-hours of process data from over 4,000 skilled welders and craftsmen. It names Harbin Institute of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics as R&D partners. It exhibited the robot range at the Beijing Essen Welding and Cutting Fair in Shenzhen from June 29 to July 2, 2026, and says the equipment has supported more than 1,200 projects in over 50 countries and regions.
