"Industrial Flying Robotics for Mission-Critical Environments"
Southern California maker of autonomous industrial drones for inspection and cleaning; its S1/S2 cleaning platform is in flight test on EFT M420 airframes.
Stratus Autonomous is a Southern California company that describes itself as a flying robotics manufacturer and industrial deployment partner. It builds autonomous aerial systems for hazardous, complex and hard-to-access industrial sites, configured for three mission types: inspection, precision cleaning and data capture. Its founder is Ismar Avdic, a professional pilot and UAV systems architect with a background in manned aviation, who spoke on artificial intelligence in commercial drone operations at Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas in September 2026.
The company names three target sectors on its website: aerospace and defense, where it offers aircraft and infrastructure inspection; oil and gas, covering tanks, structures and pipelines; and wind energy, covering turbine blade and tower inspection and cleaning. Its solutions are grouped into four lines: industrial inspection systems for structural checks and high-risk zones; precision cleaning and maintenance for high-elevation and hazardous surfaces; industrial autonomy integration, covering flight controller architecture, sensor integration, safety-layer redundancy, telemetry and fleet architecture; and data capture and monitoring for asset documentation, remote monitoring and inspection analytics.
The only hardware program documented publicly is the S1 / S2 aerial cleaning platform, an ongoing flight test that compares two configurations of the EFT M420 industrial multirotor airframe. Both carry a 14S 40,000 mAh battery and a Pixhawk 6C flight controller running ArduCopter 4.6.3; they differ in propulsion, using Hobbywing X9 and X9 Plus motor sets respectively, and are flown on a loiter and cleaning mission profile. The results are written up in an engineering white paper, SA-WP-001, titled Comparative Flight Evaluation of M420 Industrial UAV Platforms.
Deployment follows a five-step process: site assessment and risk analysis, mission and system configuration, controlled field validation under live conditions, integration with existing site safety management and workflows, and scaled rollout across facilities. The company states that it is moving from single-site implementations toward repeatable multi-site deployments. It does not publish customers, headcount, founding year, funding, certifications or a street address, and its contact page offers only a web form.
