"AI perception for automation"
San Francisco stereo-vision company founded in 2010; became a wholly owned Ouster subsidiary in February 2026 after shipping 90,000-plus ZED cameras.
Stereolabs is a stereo-vision and depth-perception technology company founded in 2010 by Cecile Schmollgruber, Olivier Braun, and Edwin Azzam, headquartered in San Francisco, California, with offices in New York and Paris. The founders began the underlying work between 2008 and 2010 at the Institut d'Optique in Paris, applying it first to 3D stabilization for surgical robots and stereoscopic processing for feature films, including the movie Avatar, before founding Stereolabs to build stereo cameras for robotics.
The ZED camera line pairs two lenses to capture depth and motion through stereo triangulation, paired with the ZED SDK for depth estimation, 3D mapping, and object detection, integrating with NVIDIA Jetson boards and the Robot Operating System. Models include the ZED X, with GMSL2 connectivity for industrial robotics; the ZED X Nano, a wrist-mounted camera for robotic manipulators and humanoid robots; the ZED X One, a monocular 4K camera with a global-shutter option; and the ZED 2i, an IP66-rated ruggedized camera.
Stereolabs has shipped over 90,000 ZED cameras to over 10,000 customers, generating about 16 million dollars in 2025 revenue. On February 4, 2026, lidar maker Ouster, Inc. (OUST) completed its acquisition of Stereolabs for about 35 million dollars in cash plus 1.8 million shares; Stereolabs continues as a wholly owned Ouster subsidiary under its founders.
