SPA Android Technics
Russian developer of the FEDOR (Skybot F-850) humanoid flown to the ISS in 2019; now makes AT Drive frameless motors, ATDS servos and rehab robots.
SPA Android Technics (Scientific Production Association "Android Technics", NPO Android Technics) is a Russian developer and manufacturer of robotic systems and components, established in 2009. It has a Moscow office at 23 Grayvoronovskaya Street and a production and reception site at 21 Murmanskiy side street in Magnitogorsk. The company states that it has completed more than 150 projects, employs more than 200 specialists, holds more than 60 patents and has published more than 150 scientific papers. Its developments are used in education, medicine, industry, space exploration and the military sphere, including biomorphic and anthropomorphic robotic complexes, and it heads a subprogram on internal state sensors, drives and manipulators within the Robotics Laboratory working group of Russia's Military-Industrial Commission.
Android Technics is best known for FEDOR (Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research), an anthropomorphic robot developed with the Advanced Research Foundation and derived from the earlier Alyosha (MPM-100) platform. A version with the callsign Skybot F-850 was launched to the International Space Station on Soyuz MS-14 on 22 August 2019, docked with the Zvezda module on 27 August after a failed first attempt, performed tasks such as connecting plugs in weightlessness, and returned to Earth on 6 September 2019. The robot is 182 cm tall, weighs 106 kg, uses 48 high-torque brushless motors from the company's own AT Drive series and runs a Linux-based real-time operating system. The R&D was carried out for customers including TsNIIMash, the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center and RSC Energia, which commissioned the "Robotic anthropomorphic multifunctional system" flight hardware.
The company's current catalog has three main lines. AT Drive frameless (housing-less) brushless motors with hollow rotors and modular design are offered in sizes such as 50x14, 160x16T and 210x26; the high-torque AT Drive 160x16T, for example, is specified at 27 V, 7 Nm rated torque, 10 Nm peak torque, 32 pole pairs and about 1.15 kg. ATDS synchronous servo drives (ATDS 3.0, 5.5 and 7.5) are marketed for industrial manipulators and harsh conditions with IP54 protection. Medical products include the Orthosis-1 robotic complex for biofeedback neurorehabilitation of hand motor function, the Orthosis 3.5.6 complex for restoring locomotor functions, and the Junior hand exoskeleton complex with biofeedback. The company also provides contract R&D to customer specifications, including work performed under Russian Ministry of Defense quality control, and 3D printing services. Its products are listed in Russia's Register of Russian Industrial Products.
