Schmersal Inc. is the North American subsidiary of the Schmersal Group, headquartered in Valhalla, New York. The German parent, K.A. Schmersal GmbH and Co. KG, was founded in Wuppertal in 1945 by brothers Kurt Andreas and Ernst Schmersal and remains family-owned, now in its third generation of leadership. Schmersal Group operates in more than 60 countries with production sites in Germany, Brazil, China, India, and the United States, and employs approximately 1,800 people worldwide.
Schmersal Inc. supplies machine safety components for industrial automation and robotics: solenoid locking interlock switches, non-contact coded-magnet sensors, safety light curtains, laser scanners, safety pressure mats, emergency stop and cable-pull switches, safety relay modules, and configurable safety controllers with IO-Link Safety interfaces. These serve guarding and access control for traditional and collaborative robot cells, plus explosion-proof devices, across automotive, food and beverage, packaging, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor manufacturing.
In November 2023 Schmersal opened a production and logistics facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, for customer-specific safety and automation assemblies. Through its tec.nicum division, an independent unit since January 2016, Schmersal Inc. provides machine safety consulting, risk assessment, and engineering training in North America.
