Dutch maker of WEED-IT optical weed-detection spot-spraying systems since 1999, fitted to trailed, self-propelled and autonomous sprayers up to 36 m wide.
Rometron B.V. is a Dutch company that designs and builds the WEED-IT precision spot-spraying systems. It was founded in 1999 in Wageningen by Roel de Jonge after research into spot spraying, and is now based in Steenderen, Netherlands. Trade press described the company in 2024 as founder-owned with 48 employees, and reported that it had equipped more than 50 kilometres of spray booms with WEED-IT sensors. All systems are developed in the Netherlands and sold worldwide through official dealers who mount and service them.
WEED-IT uses optical sensors that detect living plant material and switch individual spray nozzles in real time, so herbicide is applied only where vegetation is present rather than across the full working width. The main use is green-on-brown weed control, such as fallow fields between crops, and the company claims savings of up to 90-95 percent on crop protection products. The system can be fitted to ground-glider and trailed sprayers, quads, orchard sprayers, toolbars, self-propelled sprayers and autonomous sprayers, with working widths up to 36 m.
The current product line includes WEED-IT QUADRO, the weed detection and spot-application system; WEED-IT AQRATE, which applies product accurately at plant level using pulse-width modulation (PWM) nozzle control; and WEED-IT DASH, which provides real-time information on spray jobs and supports data analysis. Published customer stories include Myring Farming in Cecil Plains, Queensland, which has used WEED-IT since 2016 on about 2,000 ha and reports 85 percent chemical savings, and Agroservice in Luis Eduardo Magalhaes, Bahia, Brazil, which reports using 20-30 percent of the chemical needed for blanket spraying.
In August 2026 Rometron established WEED-IT USA in Wellington, Colorado, to handle distribution, service and technical support in the United States, led by general manager Doug Daws. The unit builds on Rometron's earlier cooperation with the distributor AgriTech America. Rometron exhibits WEED-IT at AGRITECHNICA.
