Precision Tools Service, Inc. (PTS) is an industrial automation distributor and technical services provider headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, with an additional Mexico operation in Irapuato, Guanajuato. The company was established in 1988 as a joint venture involving Toyo Corporation, Marubeni Corporation, and Marubeni America Corporation. PTS is a subsidiary of Toyo Corporation, a Japan-based precision tools and measurement distribution company founded in 1955, which operates across North America, Thailand, Czech Republic, China, and India.
PTS celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018. In 2017, PTS acquired MQ Automation; effective December 1, 2019, MQ Automation was rebranded as PTS Automation, Inc., creating an integrated automation-and-distribution entity. PTS describes itself as a high-tech distributor that bridges the gap between component purchase and turn-key automation systems.
The company partners with more than 8,000 manufacturers and brings over 30 years of application expertise. Key distribution partnerships include FANUC America Corporation, Omron, SMC, Bosch Rexroth, Dorner Conveyors, Yamaha, OSG, Kyocera Precision Tools, Sumitomo, Tungaloy, Lyndex-Nikken, and others. Service offerings include electrical design and panel building (UL508A-certified panel shop), robotic services and integration, safety services and risk assessment, assembly services, application engineering, conveyors and material handling, industrial vending and inventory management, and just-in-time delivery.
On the automation solutions side, PTS offers Omron AMR (mobile robot) solutions, Omron Sysmac PLC solutions, and Omron safety components. Its product categories span industrial automation products, MRO and industrial supply, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, industrial measuring tools, SMC pneumatics, and robotics. PTS is also the Automation and Technical Support Center for all North American PTS offices.
