Established in 1990 as a maker of recirculating ball screws, the company focused early on the automation and machine-tool markets and expanded into linear guideways, precision ball screw splines, ball splines, single-axis actuators, and mono stages. These components are critical to precision machinery and are applied in machine tools, electrical discharge machines, wire-cutting machines, plastic injection machines, semiconductor equipment, and precision positioning equipment. In July 2002 PMI established a subsidiary, AMT, to manufacture linear guideways, which is reflected in the company's pmi-amt.com web presence. PMI's linear guideway lineup includes the MSA heavy-load series, with balls arranged at a 45-degree contact angle for balanced four-direction loading and a patented lubrication route for even lubricant distribution, the MSB compact series, the SMA heavy-load series, and the SME ball-chain series engineered for a low friction coefficient and smooth motion under heavy loads.
The company also produces rolled and ground ball screws across internal-ball and other series. PMI states it operates four production facilities in Taiwan totaling roughly 140,000 square meters with over 1,000 employees, plus three additional facilities in China covering more than 100,000 square meters with around 1,500 employees. The company reports a global ranking near the top of its industry, citing positions such as fifth worldwide for linear guides and third for ball screws, supplying machine-tool builders and automation equipment makers internationally.
