Company Overview

Praetorian Aeronautics is an Australian defence technology company in Adelaide, South Australia, developing attritable autonomous uncrewed aircraft and AI command-and-control software, with a focus on countering drones. Its site lists its premises at Torrensville, an Adelaide suburb. The company is led by founder and chief executive Brett Hill, who has more than 20 years of experience with defence primes and start-ups in Europe, the United States and Australia. Chief technology officer Robert Hunjet previously held senior roles at Australia's Defence Science and Technology Group and was Australia's lead for the AUKUS Pillar II AI and Autonomy Working Group. Defence Connect reported in September 2026 that the company had about 50 staff and 15 million Australian dollars in capital, and that Adelaide would remain its global headquarters as it expands local manufacturing.

The product line has three parts. Dagger is a canister-launched counter-UAS interceptor intended to defeat threats beyond visual range. In its 25 kg configuration it has a 2 kg payload, cruise speed above 100 knots, range above 100 km, 35 minutes of endurance and a 10,000 ft ceiling, carries interchangeable explosive or inert kinetic warheads and day-night optical sensors, and launches from existing rail launchers or a multi-canister launcher for ground vehicles, ships or fixed sites. Venator is a long-endurance autonomous UAS for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance, maritime patrol, anti-submarine warfare and deep strike; in its a250 configuration it is quoted at 3,500 km range, 24 hours endurance, 100 knot cruise, 90 kg payload on two hardpoints and a 20,000 ft ceiling, operates from short unprepared strips and ships, and can deploy Dagger interceptors in flight. Hadrian is a command-and-control system built on multi-agent reinforcement learning that fuses sensor feeds across air, land and sea, tracks and prioritises multiple threats, assigns the best-placed effector and coordinates swarm-on-swarm engagements so a single operator can manage them.

On 7 October 2026 Rheinmetall announced that Rheinmetall Defence Australia and Praetorian had delivered a prototype of AERIE (Autonomous-Engagement-Rapid-Interceptor-Effector), a self-contained counter-UAS launcher in a 20-foot ISO container holding more than 20 interceptors, built in twelve months around Praetorian's Arrow interceptor and Hadrian C2, with operator demonstrations planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. In September 2026 the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Adelaide munitions maker Zero Dawn to integrate Zero Dawn munitions into Arrow, with export to Ukraine targeted for 2027. Praetorian joined the NVIDIA Inception programme in May 2025.
