"Securing America's food supply by building the AI Farmer that automates our nation's farms."
US agtech firm whose FruitScope tractor-mounted cameras and cloud OS map every fruit on a farm, across apples, grapes, berries, nuts and citrus.
Orchard Robotics, which trades online as Orchard (orchard.ai), builds camera hardware and cloud software that turn ordinary farm vehicles into crop-scouting instruments for specialty fruit growers. The company was spun out of Cornell University in 2022 by Charlie Wu, a computer science student who left Cornell on a Thiel Fellowship and traces the idea to his grandparents' apple farm in China. It is registered as Orchard Robotics Inc., is listed at Seattle, Washington, and also keeps offices in San Francisco and in Ithaca, New York, with roughly 11-50 staff.
The product line is branded FruitScope. FruitScope Vision is a GPS-referenced camera unit that bolts onto tractors, sprayers and other equipment growers already own, capturing up to 100 images per second as the vehicle drives the rows; computer-vision models then measure individual fruit for count, size, colour and health and locate each tree or vine to within a few inches. FruitScope Vault stores that output as a per-plant system of record covering millions of plants across seasons, and FruitScope OS is the web application growers use to visualise blocks, forecast yield and plan field operations such as thinning, pruning, fertigation and harvest labour. A decision layer called Canary has been announced as forthcoming. Because the sensing rig retrofits existing machinery rather than requiring an autonomous platform, the company positions the system as a lower-cost entry point to precision crop-load management than a purpose-built field robot.
Deployments began in apples and wine and table grapes on large US operations and have since extended to blueberries, cherries, almonds, pistachios, citrus and strawberries. Growers publicly referenced on the company site include NWFM and Atlas Vineyard Management. Named competitors in the same crop-vision niche include Bloomfield Robotics (acquired by Kubota in 2024), Vivid Robotics and Green Atlas.
Funding began with an unannounced USD 600,000 pre-seed, followed by a USD 3.2 million seed round announced in March 2024 led by General Catalyst with Humba Ventures, Soma Capital, Correlation Ventures, VU Venture Partners and Genius Ventures. On 3 September 2025 the company announced an oversubscribed USD 22 million Series A co-led by Quiet Capital and Shine Capital, with General Catalyst, Contrary, Mythos, Valyrian and Ravelin participating alongside angel investors including Formula One world champion Nico Rosberg and Yext and Roam founder Howard Lerman. Reported cumulative funding stands at roughly USD 26 million across four rounds, earmarked for expanding crop coverage, growing the engineering and field teams, and extending the platform from measurement toward automated agronomic decision-making.

leaderobot.com 12 hours ago Robotic Vision Intelligent Locomotion AI Robotics Dynamic Motion ControlIn the field of robotic haptic sensing, significant breakthroughs have emerged from years of technical accumulation and engineering capabilities. Leading haptic sensor companies have focused on multi-dimensional tactile perception, high-precision torque calculation, and heterogeneous array calibration, establishing a comprehensive intellectual property system. Their efforts have demonstrated that there are no shortcuts in haptic sensing; each aspect must be meticulously developed to create truly usable products. The emergence of new companies in 2026, which quickly introduce concepts like 'magnetized flexible materials' and 'exclusive replaceable electronic skin,' raises concerns. While their product images appear polished and their technical jargon comprehensive, comparisons with open-source projects like ReSkin and AnySkin reveal significant similarities in magnetic circuits, PCB designs, and algorithms. This suggests that some newcomers are attempting to simplify the complex development process into mere replication of existing technologies. To understand the implications of 'open-source rebranding,' it is essential to clarify the technological lineage of ReSkin, AnySkin, and eFlesh. The foundational work by Waseda University's Sugano Laboratory laid the groundwork for magnetic tactile skin technology, influencing subsequent developments by Meta AI and NYU. As these technologies evolve, the focus on low-cost, modular manufacturing continues to shape the future of haptic sensing applications.
