Octinion is a Belgian R&D engineering company headquartered at Interleuvenlaan 46, Heverlee-Leuven, Belgium, founded in April 2009 under the name INDUCT by Tom Coen, Jan Anthonis, and Wouter Saeys before rebranding to Octinion in 2015. Octinion is best known for developing Rubion, the world's first commercially launched strawberry-picking robot, unveiled at Fruit Logistica Berlin in 2019 after five years of development.
The robot navigates autonomously through greenhouse rows, uses vision systems to detect ripe strawberries, picks them without bruising in a five-second cycle, and places them in punnets. In 2020, Octinion launched Lumion, a UV-C light treatment system for controlling powdery mildew on strawberries and other crops. In 2021, Octinion merged its robotic activities with Dutch horticultural technology company Priva.
